About the role
The State Hygienic Laboratory (Iowa’s Environmental and Public Health Laboratory), at the University of Iowa, under contract with the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services, has an exciting full-time opportunity for a newborn screening laboratory analyst in the Ankeny, IA facility.
Responsibilities
- Perform biochemical and genetic testing of blood specimens collected from newborns for detection of inherited disorders.
- Maintain compliance with CLIA regulations.
Requirements
- Education or equivalency: Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Genetics, or other related field.
- Basic and relevant laboratory experience.
- Good teamwork and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Working level proficiency for interpersonal, written, and technical communication.
- Basic and clear understanding of related public health laboratory experience.
Qualifications
- Clear understanding of laboratory experience related to Newborn Screening (NBS).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
Desirable Qualifications
- Working level proficiency for interpersonal, written, and technical communication.
- Basic and clear understanding of related public health laboratory experience.
Pay and Compensation
- Pay Grade: 3A
Schedule
9:30PM - 7:30AM, 5 working days followed by 4 days off, with rotating weekends and Holidays.
