About the role

Be part of the NBCUniversal Internship Program, where students contribute to meaningful projects and unlock their potential. This internship offers hands-on experience in community engagement, strategic partnerships, communications, and event planning within NBCUniversal Local’s San Jose station.

Fall 2026 Internship Program details:

  • Program Dates: September 21 – December 18, 2026
  • Time Commitment: 20 hours per week (exact schedule determined by business need)
  • Format: In-person at our San Jose, CA station

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning, coordinating, and executing community engagement campaigns, station initiatives, and special events, including occasional weekend activations.
  • Collaborate with News, Marketing, Sales, Creative Services, and other departments to develop community partnerships and strategic initiatives.
  • Build and maintain relationships with nonprofit organizations, community leaders, sponsors, and partners.
  • Coordinate the production of Community Calendar listings, Public Service Announcements (PSAs), and promotional materials.
  • Draft press materials, media advisories, press releases, and other communications to promote initiatives and events.
  • Research community organizations, events, partnership opportunities, and story ideas aligned with station priorities.
  • Identify compelling community stories, nonprofit partners, and potential guests for news and community affairs programming.
  • Write PSA scripts, event articles, newsletters, post-event recaps, social media content, and other digital communications.
  • Capture photography and video (including b-roll) at community events for promotional, editorial, and social media use.
  • Represent NBC Bay Area and Telemundo 48 as a professional station ambassador at community events.
  • Assist with project management, including maintaining event timelines, organizing materials, tracking campaign results, and managing invoices.
  • Gather and distribute on-air news clips and promotional assets to community partners.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and other digital tools to support departmental initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Community Engagement team.

Requirements

  • Must be actively enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited institution for the entire duration of the internship (recent graduates are not eligible).
  • Current class standing of Junior or above.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without requiring visa sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Must be available to work 20 hours per week during the internship.
  • Must be willing to work in San Jose, CA.
  • Candidates on student or exchange visas (e.g., F-1 CPT, F-1 OPT, J-1, M-1) are not eligible unless they can adjust to a work-authorized status without NBCUniversal sponsorship.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field (preferred).
  • Passion for community engagement, storytelling, and serving diverse communities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-motivated, collaborative, and eager to learn.
  • Experience with social media, digital content creation, photography, or videography is a plus.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite is a plus.

Pay

Base salary is $18.45 per hour.
