Naturalist - Lake Eufaula State Park

Basic Purpose

Naturalists are assigned responsibilities involving the development and presentation of environmental educational programs for visitors at state parks and other tourism locations. Incumbents are also responsible for trail and volunteer programs at the assigned location.

Typical Job Duties

• Organizes activities and interprets the natural and cultural resources of the park area.
• Makes maps and leads nature walks.
• Develops brochures and the text for educational displays.
• Constructs and maintains trails and displays within park nature centers.
• Develops and conducts educational programs for schools, scout groups, and others at locations that may be outside the park itself.
• Presents required reports, evaluations, and visitor surveys.
• Captures and coordinates the activities of seasonal staff and volunteers who are assigned to the naturalist.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in an environmental or biological science or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one (1) year of experience in environmental education or ecology or closely related work for each year of the required education.
• The ability to lead walking tours and navigate trails, regular bending, stooping, and carrying items up to 50 lbs.
• The ability to work in various weather conditions.

Special Requirements

• Scheduled hours will require flexibility, including holidays, weekends, or events, based on the needs of the agency.
