About the role
Natural Hazards and Earth System Sciences (NHESS) is a not-for-profit interdisciplinary and international journal dedicated to the public discussion and open-access publication of high-quality studies and original research on natural hazards and their consequences. It embraces a holistic Earth system science approach, serving a wide and diverse community of research scientists, practitioners, and decision makers concerned with detection of natural hazards, monitoring and modeling, vulnerability and risk assessment, and the design and implementation of mitigation and adaptation strategies, including economic, societal, and educational aspects.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the peer-review process and support high-quality scientific publishing in your community.
- Collaborate with other researchers, practitioners, and decision-makers to advance knowledge and practice in natural hazards and Earth system sciences.
- Ensure that submitted manuscripts meet the journal’s standards for quality, relevance, and originality.
- Provide constructive feedback to authors during the review process to help improve the quality of the research presented.
- Stay updated with the latest developments in the field and contribute to discussions on emerging trends and challenges.
Requirements
- A strong background in natural hazards, Earth system sciences, or related fields.
- Experience in conducting research, analyzing data, and presenting findings.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Interest in engaging with the broader scientific community and contributing to the advancement of knowledge in the field.
Qualifications
- PhD in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience.
- At least 3 years of relevant work experience in natural hazards or Earth system sciences.
- Publication record in peer-reviewed journals.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Skills
- Expertise in natural hazard analysis and modeling.
- Knowledge of Earth system science principles and methodologies.
- Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation.
- Ability to communicate complex scientific concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience with academic writing and editing.
