National Tax - R&D Manager
About the role
This position is considered remote and requires the ability to work in a deadline-driven environment. The successful candidate will support the R&D Credit Services Team, which is part of the firm's National Tax practice. Responsibilities include managing R&D credit studies, drafting opinions, and assisting with client deliverables.
Responsibilities
- Primary point of contact and project manager for R&D credit studies and related activities
- Conducting fieldwork and assisting with client deliverables
- Developing and executing work plans for identifying and quantifying research credit claims
- Leading and supporting exam defense through IDR support, exam analysis, and client management
- Drafting opinion letters, responses to IRS inquiries, and other tax technical memoranda
- Aiding in new business development internally and externally
- Providing explanations of complex tax technical matters to firm and client personnel
- Assisting other team members with engagement delivery
- Managing project budgets, staffing, engagement economics, billing, and practice metrics
- Providing coaching, training, and professional development to staff
- Providing suggestions for efficiency improvements in processes and practice management
Requirements
- 5+ years of industry experience, with at least 2 years in a managerial capacity
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university
- Licensed CPA, J.D./LL.M.
- Solid verbal and written communication skills
- Mastery of topics including controlled groups, changes in ownership, funded research, utilization, Payroll Tax Credit, short periods, entity conversions
- Strong understanding of entity types and their impact on the credit flow
- Ability to work in a deadline-driven environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously
- Capacity to build and maintain strong relationships with firm and client personnel
- Ability to read and study relevant tax material related to R&D credit rules
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access

Pay
The salary range for a National Tax Manager is $110,000 to $170,000. Salary is one component of the CohnReznick total rewards package, which includes a discretionary performance bonus, additional benefits, and access to learning and development platforms.
Schedule
The position is considered remote, with occasional in-office attendance for client work, team meetings, or trainings.
