About the Role
The National Lending Intern joins a cohort of other interns to support Forbright Bank’s national lenders, including the Structured Finance, Healthcare, and Corporate Finance lending teams. Interns learn about Forbright’s multi-billion-dollar loan portfolios and participate in training and team-building events. Each intern is assigned to a specific lending team for the summer, gaining subject-matter expertise and exposure to a specific type of lending.
This is a 9-week, full-time (40 hours/week) internship located in Chevy Chase, Maryland, with an estimated start date of May 31, 2027. This position is open to current juniors who will be rising seniors in Summer 2027.
Responsibilities
- Perform industry research to understand macro trends that impact a company and the competitive environment it operates in.
- Aid the underwriting team in the due diligence process for loans.
- Assist in populating our internal system with all pertinent information on an opportunity.
- Assist in the management of credit risk, ensuring that asset quality remains strong, and executing strategies to limit the risk of loss.
- Help manage day-to-day borrowing activity of assigned loans.
- Perform financial analysis and projections by tracking trends and developments that may impact loan performance under various economic scenarios.
- Participate in team-wide meetings.
- Complete additional portfolio and underwriting analysis/projects on an ad-hoc basis.
- Perform other duties as assigned (duties may vary depending on the lending team assigned).
Requirements
- High School Diploma (required).
- Currently a junior pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree from a 4-year accredited institution (required).
- Strong financial statement analysis skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel); advanced Excel skills are ideal.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Outstanding problem-solving and time management skills.
- Self-motivated, self-directed, and results-oriented.
- Adaptable and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently and within a team; solution-oriented with a collaborative approach.
Work Environment
Work is primarily conducted in an office setting, though certain positions may allow for remote work at management discretion. While performing duties, the employee may be regularly required to:
- Remain in a stationary position for extended periods.
- Use hands and fingers to operate technology or office machinery (e.g., computers, printers, scanners).
- Utilize a computer monitor with visual acuity.
- Communicate clearly verbally and/or in writing with others.
Team members are expected to exhibit flexibility regarding any duties that may be situationally assigned outside of this job description.

Pay
The hourly rate for this position is $38/hour.
