About the Role

This hybrid leadership role combines technical structural engineering expertise with national quality leadership responsibilities. As the National Quality Control Leader and Senior Structural Engineer, you will lead quality control initiatives and continuously advance QC processes and best practices across DLR Group's structural engineering practice. You will also design and oversee structural systems from schematic design through construction administration for a diverse portfolio of building types, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, innovative design solutions.

Responsibilities

National Quality Control Leader

  • Lead the advancement of quality control initiatives across DLR Group’s Structural Engineering practice by developing, implementing, and continuously improving QC processes and standards.
  • Champion a culture of technical excellence by integrating lessons learned, industry best practices, and innovative approaches into engineering processes and project delivery.
  • Collaborate with regional and national engineering leaders to establish consistent quality standards, review practices, and continuous improvement strategies across the firm.
  • Develop and maintain QC procedures, training resources, and best practice guidelines to support engineering teams and promote consistent application across projects.
  • Provide mentorship and training to engineers, quality control reviewers, and technical leaders to strengthen review processes and enhance project outcomes.
  • Facilitate project quality reviews and audits to evaluate compliance, identify opportunities for improvement, and communicate key insights to leadership.
  • Partner with project teams across multiple regions to support independent quality reviews, encourage knowledge sharing, and strengthen collaboration across the Structural Engineering practice.
  • Participate in DLR Group’s Integrated Practice QC Work Group to help shape and implement firmwide quality initiatives.
  • Track and communicate QC performance metrics, trends, and recommendations to engineering leadership to support continuous improvement.
  • Share quality initiatives, lessons learned, and best practices with the broader engineering community through discipline meetings and firmwide forums.

Senior Structural Engineer

  • Strive for excellence in developing structural solutions from concept through construction.
  • Be a decision-maker in developing system layouts, narratives, calculations, and engineering reports.
  • Collaborate deeply with architects, other engineers, and clients as part of our integrated design process.
  • Learn and adapt to variations in building codes and construction practices while working on projects around the US.
  • Produce construction documents using Revit.
  • Assist contractors by reviewing shop drawings, RFIs, and participating in O/A/C meetings.
  • Mentor entry-level staff and promote workflow and technical standards best-practices for our diverse multi-office practice.
  • Contribute to managing the operations, execution, and expectations for the Structural Engineering Discipline in Colorado.
  • Support business development initiatives by assisting the RFP process, participating in project interviews, and actively engaging in community and/or industry-specific organizations to build the DLR Group brand.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural/Architectural Engineering; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 8-15 years of building-related structural engineering experience, including the design of concrete, masonry, steel, and wood/timber; gravity and lateral systems.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE). Licensed Structural Engineer (SE) preferred.
  • Prior experience leading teams of engineers on projects.
  • Working knowledge of current structural software (ETABS, SAP, SAFE, RAM, ADAPT, RISA, Enercalc).
  • Experience with BIM, including Autodesk Revit workflow.
  • Goal-oriented with strong skills in problem-solving, creativity, and attention to detail.
  • Understanding of commercial building materials, systems, and assemblies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Passion for sustainable building design and SE2050 commitment.
  • Experience with directing and coordinating project activities of junior staff.

Pay

Compensation is based on location, experience, and skills. The suggested hourly rate for this position is $84,700 - $144,430 USD.

Schedule

DLR Group follows a four-day in-office work model, with employees having the flexibility to work somewhere other than the office on Fridays.
