Responsibilities

• Conduct intake assessments through interviews with patients and relatives to gather case history.
• Plan and provide nursing care for patients, making nursing diagnoses of medical status and recommending treatment options.
• Consult with medical and behavioral healthcare staff to design appropriate treatment plans for clients.
• Administer and note reactions to psychotropic drugs and other medications; arrange further medical attention when necessary.
• Assist clients in understanding the nature of addiction and the need for treatment.
• Maintain a safe and secure environment for staff and patients.
• Test for vital signs of pain and ensure treatment of pain.
• Document all patient information on medical charts and follow physician's written orders.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and accurate records of treatments, immunizations, and laboratory results.
• Provide courteous, high-quality service to patients and the public by responding to requests or making appropriate referrals.

Charge RN Responsibilities (if Applicable):

• Create assignment sheets for the shift and communicate them to staff, including assignments and breaks.
• Ensure overall community management for a safe and efficient shift flow.
• Hold staff accountable for their assignments and provide feedback and mentoring as needed.
• Accept call-out notifications and take necessary steps to ensure adequate staffing for the shift.
• Act as the centralized person to report patient progress or special circumstances to doctors or administrators.
• Serve as the main contact/supervisor for employees and emergencies in the facility.
• Meet with management to discuss personnel and administrative issues, addressing and solving staff problems.
• Inform staff of changes in protocols and procedures.
• Prioritize and adapt during emergencies.

Requirements

• Up-to-date and active State Nursing license is required.
• Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Nursing is preferred.
• Previous experience in behavioral healthcare is strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of healthcare, detoxification processes, addiction, co-occurring disorders, and DSM criteria/terminology.
• Ability to read, interpret, and write clearly and informatively; strong editing skills for spelling and grammar.
• Strong verbal communication skills; ability to speak persuasively in positive or negative situations, listen actively, and respond to questions.
• Demonstrated group presentation skills and participation in meetings.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; familiarity with facility proprietary systems.

Work Environment

Registered Nurses at RCA work in a professional office environment and may also operate in hospitals, clinics, schools, rehabilitation centers, outpatient and mental health facilities, ambulatory care centers, private physician's clinics, community centers, and patients' homes. The role may require:

• Use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.
• Moderate noise levels in the work environment.
• Long working hours, including weekends, holidays, and night shifts.
• Close collaboration with patients and healthcare teams.

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to talk or hear.
• Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
• Occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds; intermittently lift 50 lbs. or more and carry up to 45 lbs.
• Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Prolonged walking (up to 4 hours/day) and standing (up to 4 hours/day); sitting (up to 2 hours/day).
• Ability to distinguish shades of colors and hear/understand spoken voices from a distance of 8 feet.
• Emotional and mental stability to perform essential functions and respond appropriately in emergencies.

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
