MWR Recreation Specialist (Fitness Instructor)

About the Role

This position is located at the MWR Fitness Center of the Fleet and Family Readiness (N9) Department (FFR) at Naval Base Point Loma. The purpose of this role is to plan, organize, and conduct a physical fitness program that provides conditioning programs for authorized patrons.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and conduct a physical fitness program that provides conditioning programs for authorized patrons.
  • Instruct individuals and groups in the proper implementation and maintenance of conditioning and training programs for aerobic fitness, muscular fitness, body composition, and flexibility training.
  • Conduct micro-fit testing, including measuring individuals' aerobic capacities, body fat percentage, recommended height/weight ratios, strength, flexibility, muscular endurance, and blood pressure.
  • Work with various command representatives in developing and implementing physical fitness programs for military personnel.
  • Instruct patrons in the proper use of all equipment for training and self-monitored progress by preparing written instructions and procedures for performance of work, use of equipment, safety, and well-being.
  • May train or lead other employees in various recreation or physical fitness-related positions.
  • Register students, collect fees, maintain attendance, and keep appropriate accounting records.
  • Ensure all safety measures are observed.
  • Responsible for care of equipment and security of facilities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
  • Must meet federal suitability requirements, including successful completion of a background investigation.
  • A minimum of one year of experience that demonstrates a working knowledge of the assigned program.
  • Certification in CPR and First Aid is required.
  • Nationally recognized fitness certification required.
  • Executive Order 12564 requires a Federal workplace free of illegal drugs. All Federal employees must remain drug-free throughout their employment. Use of illegal drugs will result in penalties up to and including removal from Federal Service.
  • Non-U.S. citizens with fewer than three years of recent residential history in the U.S. may be determined ineligible for employment.
  • Selectee may be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
  • Participation in Direct Deposit/Electronic Fund Transfer within the first 30 days of employment is required.
  • If access to a military installation is required and the candidate or new hire does not have a REAL ID, identity will need to be established by presenting either one Acceptable Credential or an acceptable combination of Source Identity Documents as outlined in the Base Access Form.
