MWR Bartender

Operate a limited-service bar for private parties and banquets at Silver State Club in Naval Air Station Fallon.

About the role

Mix and serve alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages, process payments, maintain inventory, and ensure a clean, presentable bar. Follow written or verbal instructions from management, use proper drink proportions, recognize intoxicated patrons, reconcile tabs, and stand or walk for extended periods while handling bar supplies.

Responsibilities

• Set up full service, limited service, special event, or banquet bars with beverages, mixes, condiments, garnishes, napkins, ice, glasses, and utensils.
• Serve soft drinks, bottle, or draft beer as needed.
• Replace supplies as necessary; remove empty kegs and replace with full ones, transfer cases of beer to refrigerator, remove cases of empty bottles, and separate returnable empty bottles.
• Unload and stack beverage items and supplies for storage.
• Remove trash.
• Wash, clean, and dry bar glasses, utensils, and equipment.
• Maintain working area according to sanitation and safety standards, including sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning sinks, walls, and cabinets.
• Assist in taking inventory at required intervals.
• Comply with all safety, fire, and sanitation rules and regulations.

Requirements

• Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check; any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
• Must meet federal suitability requirements, including successful completion of a background investigation.
• Must walk or stand for prolonged periods of time.
• Must use a dolly to transport beer kegs.
• Work schedule is flexible and will vary, including night, weekend, and holiday shifts, as well as split days off.
• May need to obtain and maintain Food Handlers and/or C.A.R.E (Controlling Alcohol Risks Effectively) certification within 90 days of hire.
• Frequent light to moderate lifting and carrying of objects weighing 5 to 15 pounds, pushing and pulling objects weighing 10 to 20 pounds, and occasional lifting of up to and over 40 pounds.
• Must meet minimum state age requirements to prepare and serve alcohol.

Qualifications

• Knowledge and skill to mix and serve beverages from a limited bar offering a few varieties and brands of liquor, soda, beer, and wine.
• Ability to prepare pre-mixed beverages such as daiquiris; exotic beverages are not mixed or served.
• Knowledge of correct proportions and mixtures for preparing beverages according to patron requests.
• Ability to recognize intoxicated or unruly patrons and resolve issues or seek assistance as needed.
• Ability to collect tabs or chits accurately and reconcile them with quantities and prices of items dispensed.
