MV Field Service Tech I, Switchgear

Assist in start-up commissioning, integration, emergency service, and troubleshooting of Vertiv medium-voltage electrical switchgear, circuit breakers, protective relays, PLCs, meters, and other automated devices. Perform mechanical repairs and modifications while maintaining excellent rapport with customers, co-workers, sales representatives, and management through continuous communication.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in start-up commissioning, integration, emergency service, and troubleshooting of Vertiv 15KVAC electrical switchgear
  • Establish, promote, and maintain excellent rapport with all customers, co-workers, sales representatives, and others
  • Evaluate the operating conditions of equipment
  • Interact comfortably with all levels of internal and external customers
  • Manage your own schedule with self-motivation
  • Perform general and preventive maintenance on switchgear
  • Respond to emergency calls at customer’s request
  • Strive to provide all customers a “first-time fix” for their equipment
  • Provide accurate and timely communication to internal and external customers
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with all safety policies, procedures, guidelines, and laws
  • Provide accurate and timely reporting of timecards, expense reports, etc.
  • Drive continuous improvement

Requirements

  • 3+ years of hands-on medium-voltage switchgear or field services experience
  • Training in electrical theory and technologies
  • Experience and/or prior military service performing applicable job duties
  • Familiarity with electrical/electronic test equipment and fundamentals
  • Ability to read schematics and blueprints for power control and automation
  • Power distribution, AC/DC, voltage circuit theory, and practical troubleshooting skills
  • Background in electrical power, including medium voltage and experience with most types of switchgear testing
  • Experience with programming PLCs and HMIs (a plus)
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Standard computer skills including MS Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Specific vision abilities: close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Foster a customer-first mindset
  • Successfully pass a drug test prior to employment (role is safety-sensitive)
  • Complete and pass a pre-employment background check

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED

Physical Requirements

  • Consistently lift up to 50 pounds
  • Frequent standing, kneeling, crawling, stooping, bending, twisting, and climbing (stairs, ladders)
  • Frequent driving (car, van, truck)

Environmental Demands

  • Exposure to extreme cold (below 32°F) and extreme heat (above 100°F)
  • Medium to high noise levels (need to shout to be heard)
  • Working around moving machinery (forklifts, tractors)
  • Required use of protective equipment (earplugs, gloves, eyewear, respirator, mask, etc.)
  • Work outdoors with no effective protection from weather

Schedule

80% travel time required.
