Location: New Kent, VA 23124 – Rosie’s Gaming Emporium – New Kent

Pay Range: $15/hr + tips

Job Summary

Sells and cashes wagering vouchers for guest use at self‑serve terminals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provides next‑level guest service to internal and external guests.
• Demonstrates #AddLife culture in all interactions with guests and co‑workers.
• Fosters an environment of support and motivation for Team Members.
• Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information in accordance with company policy and state regulations.
• Operates under strict rules and regulations of the Virginia Racing Commission (VRC) and Colonial Downs Group regarding guest service and money handling.
• Operates a mutuel window providing courteous service with moral and ethical standards; must refrain from personal wagering.
• Uses a teller terminal (ticket issuing machine) in tandem with a money drawer.
• Accepts wagers and issues mutuel tickets accurately reflecting wager, pool, race, runner, and racetrack.
• Cashes winning tickets, determining validity and value by running tickets through the ticket reader.
• Assumes full responsibility for money handling in issuance and cashing of mutuel tickets, draws and returns, and liability for any shortage.
• Monitors guests to prohibit minors from wagering.
• Escalates guest complaints to immediate supervisor.
• Resolves problems within scope of authority and recommends actions for issues beyond scope to supervisor.
• Keeps supervisor informed of relevant activities.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Abilities

• Ability to provide friendly, professional, and efficient service in a fast‑paced, guest‑facing environment.
• Clear verbal communication skills to explain wagering options, payouts, and procedures.
• Ability to remain calm, courteous, and accurate during high‑volume racing periods.
• Demonstrated ability to accurately handle large volumes of cash, tickets, and vouchers.
• Strong attention to detail for precise ticket issuance, payouts, and change‑making.
• Ability to balance drawer and complete end‑of‑shift reconciliations with minimal discrepancies.
• Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, and quick mental calculations.
• Ability to read, interpret, and process pari‑mutuel wagers and odds.
• Comfort using computerized wagering terminals, ticket scanners, and POS systems.
• Dependable attendance and punctuality; availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Prior cash‑handling, customer service, or retail experience preferred.
• Experience in a fast‑paced, guest‑facing environment preferred.
• Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
• Basic computer skills and ability to learn pari‑mutuel wagering systems and terminals.
• Must obtain and maintain a valid racing license.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

• Required to sit or stand and remain stationary for extended periods.
• Frequent activities: sit, stand, walk, use hands, reach, climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear.
• May be required to lift up to 50 pounds.
• May work long hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Noise level usually moderate to loud; environment may vary in crowds, flashing lights, temperature, and smoke.
