About the role
A special education teacher under the supervision of an administrator will design and implement lessons aligned with Common Core State Standards and Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
Responsibilities
- Administers appropriate district curriculum and designs coherent, differentiated lessons.
- Ensures assessment regulations are followed and analyzes student progress.
- Maintains a positive, orderly, safe, accessible, and academically focused learning environment.
- Communicates learning expectations, engages students, and utilizes various teaching strategies.
- Coordinates with other service staff to provide comprehensive student instruction.
- Maintains accurate records and IEPs as mandated by state and federal guidelines.
- Supports the IEP process and reflects on teaching practices.
- Works collaboratively with an education/assessment team to develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate individual objectives for assigned students.
Requirements
The ideal candidate must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with student teaching experience and a valid Nevada teaching license. They should demonstrate knowledge of child development, behavior, and characteristics of students, as well as effective teaching skills and interpersonal relations.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with student teaching experience and a valid Nevada teaching license.
- Knowledge: Child development, behavior and characteristics of students, subject area and/or credential area of teaching, effective teaching skills, planning and organizing, supervision and control, assessment and diagnosis, interpersonal relations.
- Skills: Creating an effective learning environment, establishing and maintaining effective working relationships, utilizing technology in instruction, planning, data-based decision making, and monitoring student achievement.
