Music Teacher
Yorkville CUSD 115 has an opening for a Music Teacher position to serve across Bristol Grade and Yorkville Grade School. The ideal candidate will have a passion for music education and experience working with elementary-aged students. We are looking for an educator who can create a positive and inclusive learning environment where students are encouraged to explore music through singing, movement, and instrument play. This position requires someone who is student-centered, collaborative, and committed to nurturing a love for music while maintaining high expectations for behavior and learning. The successful candidate will work closely with classroom teachers and school staff to support school-wide goals and provide engaging, standards-based music instruction.
Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality general music instruction to elementary students (grades K–3).
- Develop and implement age-appropriate lessons in rhythm, melody, harmony, form, and expression.
- Organize and direct student performances and concerts as applicable.
- Foster a classroom environment that supports creativity, collaboration, and a lifelong appreciation of music.
- Collaborate with colleagues and participate in school-wide initiatives and professional learning communities.
- Develop and administer school elementary curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
- Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and translate lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize available time for instruction.
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning, and modify instructional methods to fit individual students' needs, including students with special needs; conduct individual and small group instruction as needed.
- Instruct students in the principles of responsible citizenship and other subject matters specified in applicable laws, as well as administrative regulations and procedures of the District.
- Continue to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
- Organize and maintain a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievements, and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
- Encourage parental involvement in students' education and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
- Ensure that student conduct conforms with the school's standards and school district policies, and establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
- Coordinate with other elementary professional staff members, especially within grade level, to evaluate and assess curriculum and participate in faculty meetings and committees.
- Select and requisition appropriate books, instructional aids, and other supplies and equipment.
- Administer standardized tests in accordance with District testing protocol.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned by the program administrator and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
- Use standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, copy and fax machines, and telephone.
- Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Requirements
- Professional Educator License (PEL).
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Elementary Education or related discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
- Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade levels is a plus.
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
- Knowledge of elementary school curriculum and concepts.
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and the formulation of action plans.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
- Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
- Works in standard office and school building environments.
Pay
Starting salary: $51,612 for BS+0, year 1.
