Music Teacher

Position serves across Bristol Grade School and Yorkville Grade School, teaching elementary music (grades K–3).

About the Role

The ideal candidate will have a passion for music education and experience working with elementary-aged students. This educator will create a positive, inclusive learning environment where students explore music through singing, movement, and instrument play. The position is student-centered, collaborative, and committed to nurturing a love for music while maintaining high expectations for behavior and learning. The successful candidate will work closely with classroom teachers and school staff to support school-wide goals and provide engaging, standards-based music instruction.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality general music instruction to elementary students (grades K–3).
• Develop and implement age-appropriate lessons in rhythm, melody, harmony, form, and expression.
• Organize and direct student performances and concerts.
• Foster a classroom environment that supports creativity, collaboration, and a lifelong appreciation of music.
• Collaborate with colleagues and participate in school-wide initiatives and professional learning communities.
• Develop and administer elementary curriculum consistent with district goals and objectives.
• Promote a safe, virtual classroom environment conducive to individualized and small-group instruction.
• Translate lesson plans into learning experiences, utilizing available time effectively.
• Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and modify instructional methods to fit individual needs, including students with special needs.
• Provide individual and small-group instruction as needed.
• Instruct students in principles of responsible citizenship and other subject matters specified by applicable laws and district regulations.
• Continue professional growth by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
• Maintain accurate and complete records of student activities, achievements, and attendance.
• Encourage parental involvement and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
• Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior to achieve a functional learning atmosphere.
• Coordinate with other elementary staff to evaluate and assess curriculum; participate in faculty meetings and committees.
• Select and requisition appropriate books, instructional aids, and supplies.
• Administer standardized tests in accordance with district testing protocol.
• Perform other related tasks as assigned by program administrators or the Superintendent.

Requirements

• Professional Educator License (PEL).
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Elementary Education or a related discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
• Successful prior teaching experience at the appropriate grade levels is a plus.
• Knowledge of current teaching methods, educational pedagogy, and differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
• Knowledge of elementary school curriculum and concepts.
• Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and action-plan formulation.
• Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
• Ability to use computer network systems and software applications.
• Ability to organize and coordinate work.
• Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
• Ability to engage in self-evaluation regarding performance and professional growth.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

Physical and Mental Demands

• Works in standard office and school building environments.

Pay

Starting salary: $51,612 for year 1 (BS+0).
