Music Teacher

About the role

The Lansing School District seeks to hire new music teachers who will provide world-class instruction in a safe and welcoming environment. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in education or music practice, previous experience working with children, and alignment with the district's mission and values.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate passion for and expertise in music
• Use data to guide and effectively differentiate instruction
• Learn and grow by incorporating feedback from school leaders, colleagues, students, and professional development sessions
• Build relationships with students and parents to ensure a safe, welcoming, and engaging learning environment
• Work alongside other teachers, parents, and students to support the district's mission

Requirements

• Valid Michigan teaching certificate with a specialty endorsement (e.g., JX, JQ)
• Previous teaching experience in an urban setting
• Training in CRPBIS and other related instructional methodologies

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Must be able to move throughout the building and campus, including classrooms, hallways, and outdoor spaces. Frequent verbal communication is required to instruct students, lead meetings, and collaborate with staff and families. May be required to stand or walk for extended periods, including during supervisory duties. Occasional bending, reaching, or sitting on the floor to interact with students. Regular use of computers and instructional technology for planning, instruction, and communication. Must be able to lift or carry instructional materials and supplies weighing up to 25 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
