Music Teacher

Locations: Lehigh Valley Main Office & Studios (1544 Hamilton Street, Allentown, PA 18102) and Berks Studio at GoggleWorks Center for the Arts (201 Washington St, Reading, PA 19601).

About the role

Part-time instrumental teaching positions for flute, violin, brass instruments, or piano. Inspire students of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds in a positive and professional learning environment.

Schedule

Flexible part-time schedule starting at 10-15 hours per week, with potential to increase based on student demand and availability. Primarily weekday afternoons/evenings (3:00-8:00 PM), with occasional weekends for student recitals and outreach events.

Pay

$32-$35/hour, based on education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one quality instruction in your specialized instrument(s) at an advanced level.
• Develop and implement individualized curricula to inspire students as well-rounded musicians and learners.
• Teach instrumental techniques, scales, sight-reading, music theory, and self-expression to students of all ages and skill levels.
• Prepare and register students for evaluations, auditions, and recitals.
• Attend regular faculty meetings and maintain clear communication with students, parents, and administration via phone, email, and online scheduling system.
• Complete annual student progress evaluations and post-interview lesson evaluation forms.
• Opportunities for group classes, summer camps, and collaborative performances may be available.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in music education, music performance, or related field (advanced degrees preferred).
• At least 1 year of teaching experience.
• Proficiency in English; Spanish is a plus.
• U.S. citizenship or permanent residency.

Skills

• Advanced pedagogy and performance skills in your instrument(s).
• Ability to work flexibly and independently with a diverse student base.
• Basic technology skills: Google Suite (Mail, Meet, Forms), teacher portal (web/mobile), PDF handling, scanning, and printing.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.

Work Environment

• In Allentown: Private-sized music studios within a secure facility with reception and administrative staff.
• In Reading: Shared private music studio on the 5th floor of the GoggleWorks Center for the Arts (elevator or stairs access).
• Exposure to varying levels of musical noise from surrounding studios and standard office sounds (phones, conversations).
• Some studios have natural light; others rely on overhead lighting.

Physical Requirements

• Teach for extended periods while standing or sitting, with breaks as needed.
• Demonstrate pieces and techniques on your instrument(s).
• Communicate effectively in person, over the phone, and via email.

Required Clearances

In accordance with PA Act 153, all employees must obtain or maintain current (within the last 5 years) child protection clearances and complete mandated reporter training:
