About the role
An instrument repair technician is responsible for repairing musical instruments in a timely and proficient manner, ensuring they are returned to customers in good playing order. Specialization in one type of instrument is possible, or working on multiple types.
Responsibilities
- Clean and repair at least one type of instrument (brass, woodwind, orchestral, or percussion)
- Provide estimates for repair of instruments
- Work on a schedule to complete repairs within estimated costs and times
- Work on both customer-owned and retail instruments ranging from student-level to professional instruments
- Perform work at an hourly rate exceeding the shop’s standard rate, ensuring high-quality results
- Assist at repair clinics or school events as needed
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Apprenticeship or diploma from an accredited repair school preferred
- At least 6 years' experience working on musical instruments daily
Qualifications
- Love for music and the instrument repair field
- Physical demands: noise environment, standing, sitting, walking, lifting up to 75 pounds, mild exposure to cleaning chemicals
