Music Repair Shop Specialist

About the role

An instrument repair technician is responsible for repairing musical instruments in a timely and proficient manner, ensuring they are returned to customers in good playing order. Specialization in one type of instrument is possible, or working on multiple types.

Responsibilities

• Clean and repair at least one type of instrument (brass, woodwind, orchestral, or percussion)
• Provide estimates for repair of instruments
• Work on a schedule to complete repairs within estimated costs and times
• Work on both customer-owned and retail instruments ranging from student-level to professional instruments
• Perform work at an hourly rate exceeding the shop’s standard rate, ensuring high-quality results
• Assist at repair clinics or school events as needed

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Apprenticeship or diploma from an accredited repair school preferred
• At least 6 years' experience working on musical instruments daily

Qualifications

• Love for music and the instrument repair field
• Physical demands: noise environment, standing, sitting, walking, lifting up to 75 pounds, mild exposure to cleaning chemicals
