About the Role

This position supports the YMCA’s mission by teaching Music & Movement classes and contributing to program development. The role involves collaboration with the Program & Summer Camp Director to promote healthy living, social responsibility, and youth development through music and movement programming.

Responsibilities

• Teach Music & Movement classes at the Y on Saturday mornings; additional classes may be added.
• Collaborate with the Program & Summer Camp Director to create and advance music programs/curriculum while ensuring safety, licensing standards, and high customer service.
• Lead preparation, setup, and delivery of quality music and movement programming in a structured, positive environment.
• Supervise and engage class participants, manage group dynamics, and foster positive social skills.
• Prepare equipment in advance, ensuring it is clean, sanitized, and functioning properly.
• Build authentic relationships with staff, participants, and community partners.
• Promote YMCA programs and recruit new participants.
• Recruit, train, and coordinate volunteers to ensure quality instruction and adherence to YMCA standards.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment; assist with cleaning as needed.
• Create a welcoming environment where participants develop confidence, teamwork, independence, and problem-solving skills.
• As a Mandated Reporter, recognize signs of abuse or neglect and report them to the supervisor and authorities.
• Provide administrative support, maintain accurate attendance records, and document incidents/accidents.
• Perform other tasks and projects as assigned.

Requirements

• 3–5 years of experience in a related field.
• CPR and First Aid certification required within 60 days of hire.
• High School degree or GED (or working toward completion).

• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work positively with co-workers and the public.
• Conflict resolution skills.
• Self-starter with the ability to multi-task, work independently, and adapt to changing circumstances.
• Basic computer skills with the ability to learn new software.

Physical Requirements

• Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk, hear, run, push, pull, bend, lift, and row.
• Must use hands and fingers to operate computers, tablets, and program equipment.
• Requires close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Must lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.

Work Environment

• Work is performed at a community campus serving diverse populations.
• Occasionally stressful; requires ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
• May require attendance outside regular business hours (early mornings, evenings, weekends).
• Noise levels vary.
