About the role

Provide exceptional customer service in a safe and clean environment to ensure the customer's return visit. Accomplish this by treating customers/employees fairly and ethically, promoting inclusivity, being a responsible community member, offering the right products at fair prices, and modeling the company's core values.

Responsibilities

  • Create an environment that makes customers feel welcome, important, and appreciated by answering questions and suggesting products.
  • Gain and maintain knowledge of products sold within the department and throughout the store.
  • Offer product samples to help customers discover new items or products they inquire about.
  • Inform customers of cheese specials.
  • Provide customers with fresh products and the correct portion size to prevent shrinkage.
  • Measure, prepare, and mix ingredients according to recipes, using various kitchen utensils and equipment.
  • Adequately prepare, package, label, and inventory ingredients in merchandise.
  • Check product quality to ensure freshness, review "sell by" dates, and take appropriate action.
  • Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise.
  • Display a positive attitude, understand the store's layout, and be able to locate products when requested by customers.
  • Stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special ads, and maintain an awareness of inventory/stocking conditions.
  • Note any discrepancies in inventory and report them to the department manager.
  • Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers are maintained and temperature logs are updated.
  • Reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures, identifying unsafe conditions, and notifying store management.
  • Practice preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and notifying appropriate department or store manager of any items needing repair.
  • Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
  • Report all safety risks, issues, and illegal activities, including: robbery, theft, or fraud.
  • Able to work cooperatively in high-paced and sometimes stressful environments, manage conflict in a reasonable, non-confrontational, and cooperative manner, act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information, follow directions, seek assistance when necessary to resolve customer and business issues, and provide support and assistance through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.

Qualifications

  • Minimum: Current food handlers permit once employed.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Knowledge of basic math.
  • Desired: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Retail experience.
  • Second language: speaking, reading, and/or writing.
