About the role
The Municipal Marketing Representative is responsible for growing WP revenues through sales efforts in municipal markets. Key responsibilities include acquiring and extending contracts, maintaining relationships with elected officials, and creating winning proposals.
Responsibilities
- Develops and increases sales volume and profitability in municipal markets within a defined territory.
- Participates in short and long-term strategic market and sales planning.
- Leverages strategy assessments, planning, and cross-functional interaction to ensure high levels of internal and external client satisfaction.
- Maintains critical relationships with elected officials and other influential municipal decision-makers.
- Attends commission/council meetings frequently and seeks opportunities to increase market share and revenue.
- Develops and submits bid and RFP submittal packages that meet all specification requirements and are of superior professional quality.
- Interfaces with WP executives, managers, associates, and customers to target opportunities and pursue leads.
- Partners with key stakeholders to close significant contracts through negotiation, competitive pricing, and adherence to defined sales strategy.
- Monitors and audits municipal billing records, franchise fees, and house counts to ensure accuracy and compliance with contracts.
- Acts as a liaison between WP and municipal clients, resolving complaints and providing consultative support.
- Participates in community events and activities to promote WP's differentiable difference and stay informed about political activities and elections impacting WP, Region, and Division.
- Prepares and submits monthly/progress reports and CRM data as required by management.
- Identifies and coordinates opportunities for press coverage, collateral literature, advertising, and sponsorship recommendations.
- Researches and stays current on competitor services and municipal contracts.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or related field.
- 3-5 years of sales/marketing/business development experience in the Waste Services Industry, with a focus on the Municipal Sales Sector.
- 8+ years of sales experience, preferably in selling to state and local governments.
- Demonstrated use of strategic and consultative selling skills.
- Outstanding negotiation, contract management, forecasting, and strategic planning abilities.
- Broad expertise across the sales process, including sales generation, customer interaction, presentation, client interaction, negotiation, account management, forecasting, pricing, and sales closure.
- Successful track record of developing win-win partnerships in competitive settings.
- Superior written and oral communication skills, combined with strong organizational, interpersonal, listening, presentation, and problem-solving skills.
- Professional demeanor and adaptability to changing situations.
- Basic understanding of applied use of sales automation technology.
- Proficiency in using software packages such as MS Outlook, Word, PPT, and Excel.
- Experience in increasing sales volumes, managing costs, and sourcing opportunities through various channels.
- Knowledge of the Waste Industry, competitors, and relevant external forces influencing client buying decisions.
- Strong problem-solving, market research, financial/profitability analysis, pricing, and client relationship management skills.
- High degree of autonomy and team orientation, with the ability to work cross-functionally in a dynamic environment.
Qualifications
- BA/BS degree in business, marketing, or equivalent field.
- Related work experience can substitute for educational requirements.
