Municipal Engineer
About the role
A respected civil engineering consultancy is seeking a Municipal Engineer to support public-sector clients across the Greater Philadelphia region. The firm specializes in municipal infrastructure, land development review, and community-focused engineering projects.
Position Overview
The Municipal Engineer will serve as a trusted advisor to municipal clients, supporting infrastructure design, development review, regulatory compliance, and project delivery. Projects may include roadway and transportation improvements, stormwater management systems, water and wastewater infrastructure, land development review, public facilities, and community assets.
Key Responsibilities
- Municipal Engineering & Design
- Prepare civil engineering designs relating to grading, drainage, utilities, and infrastructure improvements.
- Develop technical specifications, bid packages, cost estimates, and project documentation.
- Prepare permitting, stormwater, and engineering reports as required.
- Utilise industry-standard design software to deliver high-quality engineering plans.
- Perform hydrologic, hydraulic, and infrastructure analyses.
Development Review & Regulatory Compliance
- Review development applications and engineering plans for compliance with local regulations and engineering standards.
- Prepare technical review comments and recommendations.
- Provide engineering guidance to municipal staff, boards, and stakeholders.
- Attend stakeholder meetings and present engineering findings when required.
Construction Support
- Conduct site visits and construction observations.
- Review field conditions and assist in resolving construction-related issues.
- Cookordination with contractors, surveyors, environmental consultants, and project stakeholders.
- Support projects through construction and final closeout.
Qualifications
- Required:
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
- Experience in civil, municipal, infrastructure, or land development engineering.
- Strong understanding of engineering design principles and permitting processes.
- Valid driver's licence and ability to travel locally when required.
- Preferred:
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or Professional Engineer (PE) licence.
- Experience supporting municipal or public-sector clients.
- Familiarity with land development review and municipal approval processes.
- Experience with stormwater management, utility design, and infrastructure projects.
- Strong technical writing and report preparation skills.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency with civil engineering design platforms and drafting software.
- Experience preparing engineering reports and technical documentation.
- Knowledge of infrastructure, drainage, utility, and site development design.
- Familiarity with permitting and regulatory review processes.
Professional Skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
