Multiskilled Technician - Emergency Department

About the role

As a Patient Care Assistant (PCA) at North Alabama Medical Center, you will be part of a team dedicated to enhancing the health and well-being of the community. This position requires a combination of technical skills, empathy, and a strong work ethic.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic patient care as delegated by an RN, including monitoring vital signs, blood glucose measurements, and accurate intake/output recording.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living such as bathing, grooming, eating, toileting, and ambulation.
• Observes and promptly reports any abnormal physical, mental, or emotional findings to nursing staff.
• Maintains clean, safe, and well-stocked patient rooms and common areas.
• Manages the tech desk and supports nursing/physician staff and overall department throughput.
• Documents care and activities per unit standards.
• Performs other duties as assigned; participates in performance improvement and required education.

Requirements

• Requires critical thinking, decisive judgment, ability to work with minimal supervision in a stressful environment; rapid learning and navigation of multiple software systems; effective English communication (read/write/speak).
• Able to complete the Skills Competency Checklist within 90 days of hire.
• A high school diploma preferred.
• An RN or EMT preferred.
• BLS required; Handle with Care preferred.
