About the role

The CSO seeks a Multimedia Producer to support the Charleston Symphony's strategic content delivery goals through the production of high-quality video, photography, and audio recordings. The primary focus for this new position is to generate compelling and creative content that captures the artistry, impact, and mission of the Charleston Symphony, enhancing the organization's connection to our community and strengthening audience engagement through digital media. Serving as a creative partner, the Multimedia Producer will work collaboratively with the marketing team to help execute a cohesive video content strategy for the CSO, while providing the technical expertise needed to capture, produce, and deliver compelling stories that advance institutional and brand awareness, marketing and sales campaigns, education initiatives, fundraising, and more. This position will begin as a part-time role with the opportunity to expand based on organizational needs and ongoing priorities.

Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the marketing team, identify and develop original and relevant stories throughout the organization, transforming strategic concepts and ideas into compelling, polished multimedia content.
  • Capture high-quality video and photography across a diverse range of events and venues including live performances, rehearsals, community concerts, in-school programs, behind-the-scenes interviews with artists and musicians, and more.
  • As the technical multimedia expert on staff, manage all aspects of video production and audio recordings, including filming, camera operation, lighting, sound, color correction, captioning, recording, editing, mixing, etc.
  • Create and edit long-form and short-form videos for use across all digital platforms; generate multimedia assets for social media, email marketing, promotional campaigns, and digital advertising.
  • Produce cinematic hero and featured videos for the website.
  • Produce the CEO's Podcast.
  • Manage and update the Watch & Listen digital library with new audio and video content on a weekly basis.
  • Organize, maintain, and archive digital media assets to support future marketing and communications needs, including b-roll, audio recordings, performance footage, musician and staff headshots, and more.
  • Recommend production equipment, workflows, and best practices to improve the quality and efficiency of multimedia production.
  • Assist with training and supporting staff in capturing high-quality mobile content when appropriate.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in film, video production, audio production, media arts, journalism, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience producing, filming, and editing high-quality video content.
  • Proficiency with professional video-editing software.
  • Experience working with professional cameras as well as mobile-production tools, including iPhone-based capture, external microphones, stabilization, and mobile lighting.
  • Strong understanding of post-production workflows, including color correction, audio cleanup, captioning, compression, exporting, and file delivery.
  • Ability to translate an idea, creative brief, or content plan into a polished final product.
  • Strong organizational and project-management skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines and shift priorities if needed.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Receptive to feedback and respectful of existing brand, editorial, and marketing strategy; ability to follow pre-established guide for Photo & Video Creative Direction.
  • Ability to transport, set up, and safely operate cameras, lighting, microphones, tripods, and related production equipment.
  • Flexible schedule with availability to work nights and weekends as needed.
  • Interest in classical music, orchestral performance, arts education, or community-impact storytelling.

Preferred Additional Qualifications

  • Knowledge of audio fundamentals relevant to orchestral music, including signal flow, microphone selection and placement, synchronization, noise reduction, equalization, and basic mastering.
  • Familiarity with accessibility best practices, including captioning, readable on-screen text, and audio clarity.
  • Basic understanding of copyright, music licensing, talent releases, and permissions for multimedia content.
  • Experience in arts, culture, or live events, and experience shooting live performances.
  • Fundamental knowledge of an orchestra and musical instruments (ex: can identify the difference between a violin and viola).
