Multimedia Journalist and Newscast Producer

This role offers the opportunity to fulfill two key functions: reporting stories and producing newscasts. You will produce newscasts on weekends and report stories three days per week.
Responsibilities
- Enterprise, research, and develop compelling news stories.
- Gather information by identifying, interviewing, and recording sources.
- Shoot and edit video for broadcast and digital platforms using professional camera and editing equipment.
- Write stories for broadcast and digital that are accurate, clear, engaging, and deadline-driven.
- Collaborate effectively with newsroom staff.
- Deliver live reports from the field, newsroom, or studio.
- Meet all deadlines and complete assignments on time.
- Maintain professional standards for wardrobe, hair, and cosmetics appropriate for on-air appearances.
- Work closely with the assignment desk to plan and build weekend newscasts.
- Select, write, organize, and time stories for live broadcasts.
- Make editorial decisions regarding content, story order, and story length.
- Ensure all newscast elements are accurate and complete, including scripts, graphics, video lists, and name keys.
- Meet production deadlines to support coordination with technical and creative teams.
- Work with reporters in the field to coordinate coverage and help ensure reporter scripts are accurate and informative.
- Collaborate with the director and production crew in the control room during live broadcasts, making real-time adjustments as needed.
- Adapt quickly to breaking news and changing situations.
- Complete post-newscast documentation, reports, and preparation for upcoming broadcasts.
- Write and maintain content for the station website and social media platforms.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field preferred.
- Strong knowledge of current events, issues, and newsmakers.
- Excellent English writing and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to shoot, edit, and present stories accurately and clearly under tight deadlines.
- Proven live reporting skills.
- Strong critical thinking, news judgment, and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse teams in high-pressure situations.
- Proficiency in reading from a teleprompter and reviewing recorded audio and video.
- Manual dexterity and fine motor skills required to operate computers, cameras, and office equipment.
- Ability to move quickly between the newsroom and studio.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods and work outdoors in a wide range of weather conditions.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds of equipment (reasonable accommodations may be made).
- Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record; driving history will be verified.
- Availability to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Pay
The hourly rate of pay for this position is $18-$20 per hour.
This position is subject to a pre-employment driving record background check. A conviction, violation pending adjudication, or adverse driving record more than 3 years old or that does not meet the major violation definition per company policy will not, on its own, disqualify an applicant.
