About the role

Join the Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) team, where you'll contribute to groundbreaking innovations! We are seeking applicants for an entry to mid-level Systems Engineer to join our Strategic and Military Space Division. SDL is seeking a Multidisciplinary Systems Engineer to support Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) satellite missions. This position is based in Albuquerque, New Mexico on the premises of Kirtland Air Force Base.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the rapid maturation of small satellite systems by being involved in every aspect of design, including documentation, analysis, fabrication, integration, testing, launch, and operations.
  • Work in a dynamic, energetic, and collaborative environment that emphasizes growth.
  • Be an integral member of a joint Government and contractor team operating in a dynamic, energetic, and collaborative environment.
  • Influence and develop SmallSat systems through strong technical/mentoring skills.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain U.S. Government Security Clearance
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related science and 2-8 years of relevant experience or a master’s degree and 0-6 years of relevant experience
  • Basic knowledge of multiple fields: mechanical, electrical, thermal, optical, software, controls, astrodynamics, navigation, propulsion, or guidance
  • Knowledge of system engineering tools and analysis methods
  • Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively both individually and within a team environment
  • Strong technical problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Strong attention to detail while still having a system-level perspective
  • Some travel may be required

Qualifications

  • Existing TS/SCI clearance
  • 2+ years of relevant spacecraft systems engineering or advanced degree(s) in a related field
  • In-depth familiarity with small satellites, systems requirements and subsystems
  • Experience with space hardware development and testing
  • Understanding of space environment

Skills

  • Must have strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Must have strong attention to detail while still having a system-level perspective
  • Must have some travel required
