Multi-skilled Journalist

About the role

WQAD-TV Davenport, the ABC TEGNA affiliate, is seeking an experienced Multi-Skilled Journalist to maintain our tradition of superior reporting and newsgathering. We are looking for a creative storyteller who can produce unique, memorable, and well-written stories, sharing them across all platforms with outstanding photography and editing. Ideal candidates understand true multi-platform journalism and are not bound by traditional TV news methods.

Current driver's license and ability to operate a news-gathering vehicle to and from various locations is required.

Responsibilities

• Perform authoritative, compelling live shots in developing stories or breaking news situations.
• Develop story ideas and mine the community to find sources who keep you informed about local events and ideas.
• Identify, write, and produce stories within a specific framework while ensuring factual accuracy and credibility.
• Maintain and develop sources to elevate reporting quality.
• Shoot, write, produce, and edit on-air and online content within deadlines.
• Use creative production techniques such as graphics and new media (e.g., viewer pictures, webcam interviews) to enhance stories.
• Leverage social media and digital tools to research, discover, and distribute content.
• Attend editorial meetings and contribute story ideas daily.
• Write in an exciting, captivating, and authentic manner.

Requirements

• 0–1 years of reporting experience preferred.
• Solid news judgment, strong communication skills, creativity, and ethical decision-making.
• Strong writing, production, and tease-writing abilities.
• Experience with ENPS, EDIUS, and Axis graphics is preferred.
• Ability to work under constant deadlines and handle live breaking news situations calmly.
• Proven ability to create social and digital content.
• Knowledge of the Davenport area is a plus.

Pay

Pay range: $20–$22 USD per hour.
