About the Role

The Multi-Purpose Clerk is an integral part of a highly motivated team focused on serving guests with an emphasis on the overall total store guest experience. The role may be assigned to one of several departments within the store, including Center Store Market, Fresh Market Departments, or Guest Services. Responsibilities include promoting sales, answering guest questions, responding to product requests, and accurately placing special orders. The Clerk practices safe food handling procedures, maintains a clean work area, and ensures product freshness through proper stocking, rotation, and merchandising.

Responsibilities

• Center Store/Front End: Operate the check stand according to company policy; memorize PLU codes; order, receive, unload, stock, and rotate product; merchandise product; perform Point-Of-Sale (POS) and inventory activities.
• Produce: Receive, inspect, and log products; trim, wash, and wrap produce; stock, rotate, and merchandise product; maintain floral area; keep all areas and equipment clean.
• Meat/Seafood: Receive, inspect, and log products; weigh, wrap/package, and label products; stock, rotate, and merchandise product; provide guest service at the seafood counter; take special orders for custom cuts or holiday items; operate equipment such as slicers and wrappers; keep all areas and equipment clean.
• Bakery/Deli: Receive, inspect, and log products; prepare, weigh, package, and label products; stock, rotate, and merchandise baked goods and deli products; take special orders for cakes and party trays; operate equipment such as ovens, proofers, slicers, and mixers; keep all areas and equipment clean.
• Janitorial: Maintain cleanliness and sanitation throughout the store; sweep and mop sales floor, front end, back rooms, and refrigerated areas; clean restrooms, break room, office areas, shelving, cases, front end equipment, shopping carts, and vending machines; clean front of store and parking lot; empty trash; operate janitorial equipment such as scrubbers and buffers.
• Valley Fresh: Receive, inspect, and log products; cut, trim, wash, juice, and package produce; stock, rotate, and merchandise product; keep all areas and equipment clean.
• Restaurant: Operate the register according to company policy; take and service guest orders; maintain cleanliness and sanitation throughout the restaurant.
• All Departments:
  • Sweep and mop sales floor, front end, back rooms, and refrigerated areas.
  • Operate forklift or baler if authorized and certified.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High School Diploma (or G.E.D.) or additional job experience.
• Six months of grocery retail-related experience.
• Excellent guest service and communication (verbal and written) skills.
• Ability to work with a sense of urgency and self-motivation.
• Capability to be proactive, initiative, enthusiastic, and flexible on the job.
• Must be available to work a variety of required retail hours.
• Physical requirements: standing and other physical movements on a frequent basis; lifting up to 40 lbs. without assistance.

Pay

Hiring pay range: $17.15 - $27.00 per hour.
