University of Miami Health System Department of Radiology is seeking a full-time Multi-Modality Technologist II to work at Lennar Foundation Medical Center in Miami.

About the role

The incumbent performs complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures using radiographic equipment to obtain high-quality diagnostic images with minimal radiation exposure. Independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative are essential, along with responsibility for designated areas, procedures, and equipment. The Multi-Modality Imaging Technologist provides diagnostic imaging in multiple specialties in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice, spending a minimum of 25% of time in a secondary specialty discipline.

Responsibilities

• Produces diagnostic imaging studies in two specialized imaging modalities.
• Coordinates and manages scheduling and patient flow for interdepartmental procedures.
• Supervises and performs diagnostic imaging studies under the direction of a radiologist.
• Assists with the education and training of new physicians, radiologists, and PhD’s in developing new protocols and imaging techniques unique to the facility.
• Participates in research initiatives and development of research protocols.
• Monitors charging of procedures and supplies daily to ensure accuracy.
• Demonstrates equipment for site visits for visiting physicians and administrators.
• Provides in-service classes within the section.
• Reviews and examines scan orders for accuracy, patient condition, and special notes; notifies supervisor of discrepancies and contacts physician’s office for corrections if needed.
• Identifies patient service requirements by establishing rapport with patients and others.
• Verifies patient ID by checking name and date of birth on electronic medical record and wristband.
• Obtains necessary consents and provides patient education.
• Performs complex specialized tasks associated with diagnostic radiologic scanners and related equipment, adhering to radiation safety procedures under radiologist supervision.
• Integrates diagnostic, laboratory results, patient history, and medical records to adapt exams as necessary.
• Demonstrates complete competence in performing scans as ordered.
• Assists in positioning patients using immobilization and protective equipment.
• Maintains aseptic technique using universal precautions (hand washing, gloves, gown, mask, eye protection, and equipment disinfection).
• Assists radiologists with imaging procedures, including starting IVs and injecting contrast when applicable.
• Evaluates scans for technical quality, collates processed images, and transmits to PACS.
• Schedules patients for procedures and assists with clerical functions.
• Charges procedures and supplies in UChart/Radiant.
• Dispenses radiopharmaceuticals orally as per approved protocol.
• Loads and operates power injectors for contrast media administration.
• Maintains accurate patient records.
• Provides orientation and training to new technologists and student technologists.
• Reduces patient anxieties by providing explanations and answering questions.
• Applies age-specific and developmental care needs for patients (children, adolescents, adults, geriatric, challenged/disabled) as documented by competency validation checklist.
• Performs basic nursing functions (e.g., assists with bedpans, emesis basins).
• Assumes care for physical and psychological needs of patients during scanning; initiates life support measures and performs CPR as needed.
• Maintains a clean and sanitary work area, stocks exam/dressing rooms with supplies.
• Provides on-call coverage and reports unusual findings to appropriate personnel.
• Adheres to hospital/department HR policies and regulatory body guidelines (Joint Commission, AHCA, ACR, FL DOH, FDA/MQSA).
• Rotates in the department’s “on-call” schedule where applicable.
• Travel to UM facilities may be necessary.

Specialized Modalities

The technologist must be proficient in any combination of two or more of the following:

• X-ray (RT)
• Computed Tomography (CT)
• Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
• Nuclear Medicine (NM)
• Interventional (VI)

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate of a Radiologic Technology accredited program.
• ARRT registered in at least 2 modalities (X-ray, CT, MRI, or NM).
• Valid State of Florida License.
• CPR and BLS certification required.
• Three years of relevant experience.
