About the role
Provides high quality diagnostic radiographic imaging utilizing equipment in the areas of x-ray, mammography (if applicable), bone density, MRI, and CT.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrates ability based on experience to critique images and adjust images according to organizational needs and referring physicians needs.
- Responsible to understand and perform according to Stamford Hospital's policies and procedures.
- Reviews patient schedules before patients arrive.
- Proactively confirms the patients arrival, appropriately choosing correct patient based on schedule and priority.
- Reviews scripts and all pertinent prior studies, images, dates, and notes. Checks authorization when necessary. Checks and reviews blood work when necessary.
- Confirms patient identification by checking ID wristband and asking patient to spell last name and provide D.O.B.
- Collects clinical/medical history from patient:
- Confirm the ordered test and laterality/body part.
- Ask why they are here for the exam.
- Explain the exam to the patient in simple terms.
- If necessary, call ordering physician for new scripts (s) or confirmation/explanation of test ordered.
- Amend requisition to reflect new/changed order and cancel incorrect order.
- Appropriately chooses screening questions for MRI safety following departments policies and procedures. Inquires about pregnancy when applicable.
- Performs exam according to diagnosis, patient history, and protocol. Provides as much comfort to the patient as possible during exam.
- Able to recognize and respond appropriately to medical emergencies.
- Knowledgeable regarding radiation safety and protection.
- Checks all imaging before releasing the patient.
- Inputs information to Meditech, including taken status, depart, and billing.
Requirements
- 5 years experience preferred, but not required.
- Ability to apply knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
- Ability to recognize and respond to medical emergencies.
- Developed skills to practice in a safe clinical environment.
- Knowledgeable in safe vs. unsafe metallic implants.
- Proficient in IV set up.
- Knowledge of routine protocols vs. specialized imaging.
- Ability to recognize pathology.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and the willingness to improve computer skills.
- Basic knowledge and understanding of teleradiology and sending images electronically.
Education
- Graduated from an accredited radiologic technologist training program approved by the AMA.
- Maintain license and registry with the ARRT and current CPR required.
- Advanced registration required upon hire or within 1 year of hire date.
