About the role
The Health Care District of Palm Beach County is an independent special taxing district that has served as a healthcare safety net for more than 36 years to fill in gaps in access to healthcare services. This unique healthcare system covers the entire county and provides a wide range of services such as nine community health centers (Federally Qualified Health Centers) which serve everyone regardless of ability to pay; school health teams in 172 public schools; a lifesaving Trauma Hawk aeromedical helicopter program; a rural, public teaching hospital, Lakeside Medical Center; an award-winning skilled nursing center; a ground ambulance program for Health Care District patients needing a higher level of care and the county’s Trauma Agency, which ensures quality outcomes within the county’s trauma system and leads initiatives to prevent traumatic injury.
Responsibilities
- Performs a variety of imaging procedures on inpatient, emergency and outpatients.
- Performs a variety of radiology procedures including, inpatient, and emergency and outpatient radiographic studies.
- Adjusts techniques for optimum radiograph and the lowest dose achievable according to established protocols.
- Ensures radiation safety techniques are followed at all times and conform to ALARA.
- Provides operating room (c-arm) fluoroscopy services and produces radiographs as needed.
- Ensures that diagnostic quality scans are accurately produced according to established protocols. Adjusts techniques for optimum CT scans and the lowest dose achievable.
- Ensures radiation safety techniques are followed to conform to ALARA.
- Puts up rooms for imaging exams.
- Aid Radiologist during fluoroscopy procedures as well as performing all imaging according to set protocols.
- Sets up and maintains sterile fields while performing CT biopsy procedures.
- Performs start-up and shut-down procedures as required.
- Follows contrast protocols.
- Ensures all documentation is accurate prior to the start of a procedure. Physician’s orders are reviewed to confirm exam to be performed matches physicians prescription.
- Identifies each patient with two identifiers as per hospital policy.
- Transports patients to and from their units to the imaging room as necessary.
- Maneuvers patients into the correct position for imaging procedures.
- Utilizes and adjusts immobilization and supportive devices to ensure patient safety, proper positioning and to minimize patient discomfort.
- Performs various clerical duties within the Radiology Department.
- Maintains inventory of supplies. Informs supervisor of needed supplies as necessary in accordance with the hospital’s policies and procedures.
- Prints films and burns CD’s as needed.
- Uses equipment safely and as directed by policies and instruction.
- Reports any identified equipment breakdown or malfunction to the Manager of Radiology.
- Maintains cleanliness of equipment after use.
- Ensures all patient data and required technical data is entered correctly into the computer system.
- Inputs patient charges accurately.
- Complies with staffing and on call rotations as required.
- Follows and adheres to all aspects of the hospital’s Code of Conduct.
- Emergency duty may be required of the incumbent that includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters or to perform other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to threats or disasters, man-made or natural.
Qualifications
- Education: Associate’s degree required. Accredited hospital-based programs are accepted in lieu of associate's degree.
- Experience: Two (2) years of experience preferred.
- Certification: BLS certification required. Required to have a minimum of two (2) out of the following Modalities: X-Ray, CT, Mammography, MRI, and Bone Density. For Ultrasound and Echo Technologist, ARDMS is required.
- Licensure: Licensed in the State of Florida as Certified Radiologic Technologist and certified with American Registry of Radiologic Technologists required for X-ray, CT, Mammography, MRI, and Bone Density. For Ultrasound and Echo Technologist, ARDMS is required.
- Standards Required: Data Utilization, Human Interaction, Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization, Verbal Aptitude, Mathematical Aptitude.
