Multi-Line Extrusion Operator- 3rd Shift

About the role

Judd Wire Inc., a Sumitomo Electric Group company, is seeking a Multi-Line Extruder Operator for its 3rd shift position in Turners Falls, MA. The operator will be responsible for setting up and operating extruder lines to produce a variety of short-run, heavy/large wire, cable, and braided products.

Job Duties

• Work from shop orders, requisitions, and move various heavy-sized wire reels to take-off apparatus.
• Mix various components and chemicals to maintain stability regarding footage, lengths, wall thickness, and die and leader sizes.
• Operate multi-head/tandem and multi-extrusion lines, printers, and marking/printing machines to apply identification numbers, stripes, or legends to extruded wire/cable.
• Operate multiple pay-off and take-up machines per shop packet or wire size.
• Perform visual and tactile inspections of work and take samples according to specifications and instructions.
• Operate testing equipment and perform tests such as concentricity, OD/ID, elongation, adherence, and others as required.
• Monitor operations continuously and adjust variables like water troughs, speeds, and feeds to meet quality and quantity parameters.
• Detect and report defective materials, improper compounding, malfunctions, and unusual conditions to supervision.
• Maintain equipment and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.
• Work a flexible schedule and be willing to work overtime as needed.

Qualifications/Requirements

• High school diploma or GED with basic math skills.
• At least 3 years of progressive manufacturing experience directly related to extrusion.
• Use of judgment to plan, perform, and make decisions on set-ups and operations of multi-head/multi-line extruders.
• Moderate physical effort, including frequent moving of average to heavy weights, lifting up to 50 lbs., pushing, and pulling large reels.
• Continuous mental and visual attention to detail, manual coordination, and repetitive work.
• Working conditions may expose employees to noise, fumes, dust, hot and cold temperatures.
