Multi-Line Extruder - 3rd Shift
About the role
Judd Wire Inc., a Sumitomo Electric Group company, is seeking 2 Multi-Line Extruder Operators for its Turners Falls, MA manufacturing facility. The position operates multi-head/tandem, multi-extrusion lines, and various printers to produce a wide range of short-run, heavy/large wire, cable, and braided products.
Job Duties
- Set up tubing, semi-pressure, and pressure processes on extruder lines.
- Operate multi-head/tandem, multi-extrusion lines, and various printers.
- Run two extruders singly or simultaneously depending on demand.
- Mix various components and chemicals to maintain stability.
- Work from shop orders, requisitions, and move heavy-sized wire reels.
- Select shop orders to consolidate runs for efficiency and meet time requirements.
- Adjust dies and leaders in extruder to maintain proper temperatures, speeds, and feeds.
- Clean extruder heads, screws, and barrels.
- Apply identification numbers, stripes, or legends using marking/printing machines.
- Operate pay-off and take-up machines for different wire sizes.
- Perform visual and tactile inspections of work and take samples as required.
- Use testing equipment to conduct tests such as concentricity, OD/ID, elongation, and adherence.
- Maintain equipment and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.
- Monitor operations continuously and adjust as necessary to meet quality and quantity parameters.
- Detect and report defective materials, improper compounding, and equipment malfunctions.
- Work a flexible schedule.
Qualifications/Requirements
- High School diploma or GED with basic math skills.
- At least 3 years of progressive manufacturing experience directly related to extrusion.
- Ability to work from shop orders and requisitions.
- Basic understanding of extrusion processes and equipment.
- Good judgment to plan, perform, and make decisions regarding set-ups and operations.
- Physical ability to lift 50+ lbs and stand for long periods.
- Continuous mental and visual attention to detail.
- Manual coordination of diversified duties.
