Multi-Line Extruder - 2nd Shift

About the role

Judd Wire Inc., a Sumitomo Electric Group company, is seeking a Multi-Line Extruder Operator for its Turners Falls, MA manufacturing facility. The position operates multi-head/tandem, multi-extrusion lines, and various printers to extrude a wide range of short-run, heavy/large wire, cable, and braided products.

Job Duties

• Work from shop orders, requisitions, move various heavy-sized wire reels to take-off apparatus;
• Mix various components and chemicals to maintain stability regarding footage, lengths, wall thickness, proper die and leader sizes;
• Operate marking/printing machines of various types (3) to apply identification numbers, stripes, or legends to extruded wire/cable;
• Operate multiple pay-off and take-up systems per shop packet or wire size;
• Perform visual and tactile inspections of work and take samples according to specifications and instructions;
• Operate testing equipment and perform tests according to specifications including: concentricity, OD/ID, elongation, adherence, and other tests;
• Monitor operations continuously and adjust speeds, feeds, and other variables to meet quality and quantity parameters;
• Detect and report defective materials, improper compounding, malfunctioning equipment, unusual conditions to supervision;
• Maintain equipment and work areas in clean and orderly condition.

Qualifications/Requirements

• High School diploma or GED and basic math skills;
• 3+ years of progressive manufacturing experience directly related to extrusion;
• Use of judgment to plan, perform, and make decisions regarding set-ups and operations of multi-head/multi-line extruders;
• Moderate physical effort consisting of frequent moving, lifting 50+ lbs., pushing, pulling large reels, etc.;
• Continuous mental and visual attention to detail, manual coordination of diversified duties, and repetitive work;
• Working conditions may expose employees to noise, fumes, dust, hot and cold temperatures.
