About the role
The Teacher position within the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Missouri Schools for the Severely Disabled is responsible for designing and implementing individualized education programs for students with disabilities. Responsibilities include analyzing learning styles, integrating related services, conducting IEP meetings, and coordinating behavioral and communication support plans.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement appropriate individualized education programs for students with disabilities.
- Analyze student's learning style and adapt teaching strategies to meet specific educational needs.
- Select age-appropriate, functional, and safe activities, materials, equipment, and sites for teaching.
- Integrate appropriate related services into students' daily instructional programs.
- Conduct Individualized Education Program (IEP) team and special education meetings.
- Coordinate the design and implementation of behavioral support/intervention plans for students with challenging behaviors.
- Coordinate the design and implementation of communication systems for students.
- Develop and follow an instructionally time-efficient daily schedule for implementation of students' IEPs.
- Direct daily activities of teacher aides and classroom volunteers.
- Follow student-specific special health care procedures as specified.
- Maintain a safe environment for students.
- Maintain confidentiality of student, parent, and staff personally identifiable information.
- Follow policies and guidelines of the MSSD program.
- Accurately complete required reports on or before established deadlines.
- Collect academic, instructional, and IEP assessment data to improve student learning.
- Carry out daily self-care needs of students as needed (i.e., toileting, diapering, feeding, hand-washing, tooth-brushing, etc.).
Requirements
- Missouri Teaching Certificate or eligibility to obtain temporary or provisional certification.
- Experience with individuals with disabilities is preferred.
- A professional license pursuant to state law is required.
Qualifications
- Must maintain CPR, AED, and First Aid certification as specified by MSSD.

Pay
The salary range for this position is $52,488 - $65,016. Applicants eligible for years-of-service adjustments or shift differentials may exceed this range.
