About the School
The Co-op School was founded in 2003 by a group of parents seeking a high-quality, affordable preschool in Clinton Hill and Fort Greene. It has grown from a small parent-run playgroup into a fully staffed, licensed non-profit serving preschool through middle school. The school now operates from three locations, including a 3,500-square-foot facility in Bedford Stuyvesant featuring a double-height gym, rooftop library, and two playgrounds.

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and passionate STEM Teacher to join our middle school team. This role involves teaching 5th-8th grade science, serving as an advisor, and contributing to the broader school community. The position offers a unique opportunity to shape a meaningful, rigorous, and joyful program in collaboration with our team.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and develop the middle school Science curriculum
- Teach 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade classes
- Use varied assessments, assignments, and experiences to measure student learning and guide instruction
- Provide academic remediation and enrichment during WIN periods
- Serve as a middle school advisor
- Cover lunch/recess duties and other responsibilities as needed
- Actively participate in divisional meetings, peer observations, planning meetings, and staff meetings
- Collaborate with middle school teachers, learning specialists, and the division head to deliver high-quality, differentiated instruction
- Communicate regularly with families through school-sanctioned platforms
- Integrate The Co-op School Core Values into classroom culture, units of study, and interactions
- Incorporate real-world and community connections into lessons and classroom culture
- Maintain positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues
- Uphold confidentiality regarding student information and records
- Foster a positive, safe classroom culture and community
Requirements
- Commitment to working with middle school students and enthusiasm for real-world science connections
- Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in math, science, education, or related field
- 3+ years of experience teaching grades 5-8
- Experience working with children with special needs, including IEPs
- Commitment to social justice and anti-bias curriculum
- Enthusiasm for the opportunities and challenges of middle school education
- Willingness to collaborate and inspire a love of learning in students
- Reflective practice and commitment to professional growth
- Ability and willingness to differentiate instruction
- Knowledge of progressive education and inquiry-based teaching
- Positive attitude, flexibility, and sense of humor
Pay
Annual salary range: $55,000 – $79,287, based on years of experience and education.
Schedule
Full-time, union position. Start date: August 2026.
