About the role

The Functional MRI Laboratory supports research on brain structures and functions, as well as functional MRI and related technologies. This MRI technologist position is part of the Medical School's Radiology Department and serves researchers across the university.

Responsibilities

  • Operate magnetic resonance scanners to aid in diagnosing and treating medical conditions.
  • Assist in maintaining equipment and coordinating repairs with vendors.
  • Set up and assist with MRI machines for research purposes, ensuring proper safety measures are taken.
  • Log and bill scans accurately, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Provide clear instructions and support to patients and researchers.
  • Maintain clean and well-stocked scan areas, restocking supplies as needed.
  • Collaborate with technologists and multidisciplinary teams, training new staff as necessary.

Requirements

  • Registered MRI Technologist by ARRT or ARMRIT.
  • Eligible to complete the ARRT or ARMRIT MRI Registry within 18 months of hire.
  • Primary Source Verification required.
  • Physical requirements include moderate standing/walking, lifting, positioning, pushing, and transferring of patients.

Desired Qualifications

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • CPR/BLS certified.
  • Three years of experience operating an MRI scanner.
  • Knowledgeable about MRI risks and effective communication skills.
  • Thoughtful, caring, patient, and respectful personality.
  • Experience scanning pediatric subjects.
  • Experience using a Linux operating system.
  • Experience in a research setting or performing functional MRI.
  • Knowledge of University of Michigan human subjects research policies and procedures.
  • Experience using GE scanners and software.

Work Schedule

This position requires every other weekend coverage and a minimum of 30 hours per week (flexible schedule).

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP).
