About the Role

The practice of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is performed by radiologic technologists responsible for the use of radio frequencies (RF’s) within a magnetic field on humans of all ages (newborn to geriatric) for diagnostic, therapeutic, or research purposes. An MRI technologist performs MRI procedures utilizing MRI scanners and power injectors producing cross-sectional and 3D images at the request of and for interpretation by a licensed independent practitioner.

Responsibilities

• Perform all the duties of an MRI Technologist I.
• Safely administer contrast or other imaging agents, including identification of incompatibilities and/or interactions.
• Assess a patient’s risk for allergic reaction to contrast media and other related medications prior to administration; follow appropriate protocols for escalation of concerns.
• Evaluate lab values prior to administering contrast media or other related medications and beginning the ordered examination.
• Provide accurate explanations and instructions to the patient and family using age-appropriate language; verify patient understanding and agreement to complete the ordered exam.
• Perform ordered exams or therapy in accordance with established imaging protocols while respecting the patient’s ability and comfort.
• Adhere to policies and utilize protocols to determine that expected outcomes have been met.
• Document deviations from protocol and/or patient-specific issues that may impact image quality.
• Notify the appropriate healthcare provider when an immediate clinical response is necessary based on procedural findings, patient condition, or other relevant concerns that may impact patient safety or care.
• Timely complete all required post-processing, image display, and transfer for physician review.
• Demonstrate timely order closure, charge entry, and PACS QA completion.
• Routinely cover open shifts as appropriate based on your level of competency.

Requirements

• Certification by the American Registry of Radiology Technologists (ARRT) or Certification by the Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB) or American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT) within the first 90 days of hire.
• Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers).

Knowledge and Competency

• Experienced and competent in routine and complex studies.
• Complete understanding of technical standards, scope of practice, department and health system policies, and safety and service standards.
• Complete understanding of imaging equipment, image processing software, instrumentation, and ancillary patient care equipment.
