MRI Technologist (PD)

About the role

Operate magnetic resonance imaging equipment to produce images of the body for diagnostic purposes. Explain procedure to patient, position and immobilize patient on exam table, and observe during scan under direction of a physician. Monitor video display of area being scanned and adjust density or contrast to improve picture quality. Review and evaluate computer-generated information to determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes. Comply with government regulations to ensure safety of patients and staff.

Responsibilities

• Under the direction of a radiologist, perform MRI and MRA procedures.
• Produce high-quality images with minimum stress and exposure to the patient by dealing tactfully and cooperatively with patients and the general public.
• Provide information and explanation to the patient regarding the examination.
• Check patient identification and screening form to ensure proper administration of MRI & MRA procedures.
• Demonstrate the ability to properly position the patient on the table as required for the exam requested.
• Demonstrate the ability to operate the MRI unit according to protocols.
• Assist in the orientation and training of new technologists.
• Demonstrate knowledge and ability to follow departmental protocols to produce appropriate studies.
• Perform related duties as required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalency, required.
• Completion of two (2) years in an American Medical Association-approved School of Radiologic Technology, required.
• Licensed by the State of New York Department of Health, required.
• Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT), preferred.
• Minimum two (2) years of MRI experience in a hospital-based setting utilizing a high field strength magnet, required.
• Experience with PACS and RIS and computer-controlled equipment such as MR scanners, required.
