About the role
The MRI Technologist is responsible for producing quality MRI images through knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy, MRI scanning, and providing high-quality patient care. Essential duties include organizing patient information, interviewing patients for medical history, operating power injector systems, and reporting safety issues.
Responsibilities
- Full understanding of HIS, RIS, PACS to include ordering, monitoring workings, validation of images and completing studies
- Interviews patients for relevant medical history, explains exams and assists patients
- Interviews patients to obtain a complete MRI Safety/Implant history
- Cross references implant with known devices databases and reports any safety issues to the attending radiologist
- Produces images demonstrating a thorough knowledge of MRI imaging as well as established imaging protocols
- Follows MRI safety protocols and policies
- Demonstrates ability to operate power injector system
- Identifies all patients using two patient identifiers (name and birth date)
- Demonstrates caring, excellence, leadership, pride, teamwork, integrity and center-wide standards for service
- Provides all aspects of patient care based on established standards
- Demonstrates competency in all procedures within scope of practice, as appropriate to the ages of patients served
- Knows the general condition of the equipment at all times, knows how to operate all equipment required in the course of performing procedures
- Documents and reports failures in a timely manner in accordance with policies and procedures
- Recognizes normal and abnormal image findings and reports to supervisor or radiologist
- Maintains proper stock of medical and clerical supplies
- Aids in rotating supplies and linen
- Starts and removes IV’s for exams
- Escorts patients to exam/procedure rooms
- Observes, records and reports patients’ conditions and reactions to drugs and treatments to providers
Requirements
- High School or GED required
- Satisfactory completion of a formal Radiologic Technology Program/Magnetic Resonance Imaging/Nuclear Medicine/Radiation Therapy/Sonography Program in an approved school
- Registered with ARRT in Radiography (R) or ARMRIT (MRI) within one year of employment
- Minimum 1 year experience as MRI Technologist preferred
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association
