About the role

Ensures exam rooms are clean, stocked, and ready for use, and that all equipment undergoes routine cleaning and safety checks.

Notifies appropriate personnel when inventory is low.

Educates patients and family members about MRI procedures, contrast use, and safety precautions, promoting comfort and cooperation throughout the exam.

Positions patients accurately and comfortably using appropriate immobilization and coil placement techniques to ensure high-quality imaging.

Prepares and administers IV contrast material following safety guidelines and monitors patients for adverse reactions.

Performs and documents daily system quality control (QC) checks in compliance with departmental policies and regulatory requirements.

Follows department protocols for patient identification, informed consent, and time-out procedures prior to starting exams.

Maintains accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record (EMR) and PACS systems.

Performs high-quality MRI examinations in accordance with physician orders and departmental protocols to ensure diagnostic image quality and patient safety.

Reviews patient history and clinical information to confirm exam appropriateness and identify potential contraindications (e.g., implanted devices, metal, claustrophobia, contrast allergies).

Screens all patients, staff, and equipment for MRI safety compliance per facility policy and current safety standards, including completion of required screening documentation.

Operates all imaging equipment safely and properly, including scanners, injectors, and monitors, adapting protocols for patients of all ages.

  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • General computer skills and PACS
  • General physics and anatomy
  • Experience/knowledge of computers/networking
  • Able to quickly learn and follow departmental policies and procedures
  • Maintain responsibility for all Hospital continuing and annual education
  • Maintain all required registries and licenses to perform imaging procedures
  • Follow Basic Radiation Safety concepts of time, distance, and shielding to keep exposure levels ALARA for patients and staff
  • Able to perform MRI procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Deal efficiently, ethically, and courteously with all patients and hospital personnel
  • Excellent verbal and written skills to facilitate communication with medical personnel that addresses the physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and age-appropriate needs of the patient population served within the organization

Requirements

  • Associate degree
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of MRI training program (preferred)

Qualifications

  • Basic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS)
  • Registered Technologist - Magnetic Resonance Imaging (R.T.(MR)ARRT)
  • OR American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT)
