MRI Technologist

Responsibilities

• Performs routine diagnostic imaging and magnetic resonance procedures.
• Reviews the patient’s requisition for consistency of examination ordered with the clinical diagnosis and demographic information.
• Positively identifies patient and obtains written consent from the person legally responsible for the patient before beginning exam.
• Explains the procedure to patient/parent before beginning exam.
• Prepares, positions, and monitors the patient throughout the procedure.
• Initiates venipuncture for administration of contrast media.
• Prepares and administers oral and intravenous contrast before and during exam as specified by radiologist.
• Identifies, processes, and checks images/films for quality and selects images to be sent to the PACS and/or filmed.
• Archives images and sends to PACS immediately upon completion of scan.
• Completes procedure in RIS system.
• Maintains equipment, room, and supplies in assigned area.
• Performs quality control procedures daily and as assigned.
• Performs routine inventory of supplies and replaces as necessary.
• Maintains a clean work area and notifies proper personnel in the event of equipment malfunction.
• Follows and contributes to quality assurance procedures and programs; identifies and reports potential problems.
• Collects data and submits reports when requested; serves as representative on quality assurance committee when requested.
• Collaborates with support personnel, including communicating with schedulers, clinic personnel, radiologists, attending physicians, and nursing staff concerning scheduling, NPO times, and sedations.
• Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to any age-related needs of the patients served, including assessing and interpreting age-specific data and identifying age-specific needs.
• Provides age-appropriate care for all ages served: Infants (birth–1 year), Toddlers (1–2 years), Preschoolers (3–5 years), School-age (6–11 years), Adolescent (12–20 years), Young Adult (21–30 years).
• Performs other related duties as assigned or directed to meet the goals and objectives of the department and the institution.
• Maintains regular and predictable attendance.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited radiologic technology program.
• One year of imaging experience required (X-Ray, CT, or MRI).
• Must obtain MRI specialty registration (R or MR) from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists within 12 months of start date.

Pay

A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $29.00 – $50.50 per hour.
