MRI Technical Coordinator - Radiology Full time Hybrid Days

Responsibilities

• Establish working relationships with external companies contracting with Northwestern to provide radiology services.
• Distribute radiology reads to Northwestern radiologists based on type of exam.
• Manage relevant worklists and assign cases based on turnaround times and staffing shortages with the Vice Chair.
• Work closely with the leadership team and project managers to identify gaps in coverage across the system and formulate working groups to assign temporary workflows.
• Devise strategic initiatives with the Vice Chair for Health Network Radiology.
• Design and coordinate orientation programs for technical and assistant personnel.
• Train technical staff in applying clinical protocols and techniques.
• Develop training programs to apply evolving radiology techniques.
• Provide and coordinate technical in-service education programs to develop staff technically, educationally, and professionally.
• Provide technical assessment of job performance for employee performance appraisals.
• Assist in the development of departmental and institutional policies and procedures in relation to technical standards and compliance.
• Coordinate/communicate equipment service and preventative maintenance schedule/QM program; collaborate with physicists to determine corrective action if needed.
• Participate in monthly staff meetings.
• Develop rapport with Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) to ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies and radiation safety standards, where applicable.
• Participate in new product review and evaluation.
• Coordinate supply ordering process with staff.
• Maintain clinical status and staff the unit if/when needed.
• Function as the technical “subject matter expert” for the section.
• Maintain current knowledge of all radiology imaging and patient care equipment in the section based on industry standards, regulatory requirements, and manufacturer recommendations.
• Monitor equipment log related to service and preventative maintenance to ensure compliance with required service and maintenance schedules.
• Report incidences of equipment failure, irregularities in equipment performance, and equipment items in disrepair to the manager.
• Facilitate service calls to proper repair company for correction of the incident.
• Maintain communication with all radiologists to assure quality of service.
• Train technical staff in applying clinical protocols and keep them abreast of evolving techniques.
• Collaborate with the manager and medical director to develop technical assessment of job performance for employee performance appraisals, utilizing objective, measurable criteria.
• Actively participate in the departmental Quality Improvement Plan.
• Manage the departmental Radiation Safety Program.
• Oversee technical quality standards.
• Participate in formal and informal process improvement and problem solving to enhance the quality of service to customers.
• Collect data to support the measurement and tracking components of quality management.

Qualifications

Required:

• Graduate of an accredited school/college of Radiologic Technology.
• Graduated from an accredited educational program in radiography, radiation therapy, magnetic resonance, nuclear medicine, or diagnostic medical sonography.
• State of Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety License (IDNS/IEMA) required for those in Diagnostic Imaging (x-ray), CT, Mammography, Interventional Radiology, and Nuclear Medicine.
• CPR BLS certification through American Heart Association (AHA).
• Certification based on modality/department:
  • Certification and registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiography, Nuclear Medicine Technology, Radiation Therapy, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Sonography, or Mammography (clinical and technical competence in mammography to meet MQSA requirements).
  • OR Certification by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) in Sonography or Vascular Technology.
  • OR Certification by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) in Nuclear Medicine.
  • OR ARMRIT certification.

Preferred:

• Bachelor’s Degree or 3 or more years of experience.
