MRI Tech PD

Under general supervision of the Manager, Special Imaging for the MRI Division, operates an MRI unit and related equipment to produce MRI images of designated anatomical areas. Collects and completes records on patient data and equipment operation, assists patients and radiologists, solves minor equipment problems, and performs calibration tests and quality control functions. Ensures all functions reflect age-specific needs of geriatric, adult, and adolescent patients while fostering patient and family-centered care in accordance with organizational values.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and calibrates the MRI unit for daily operation.
• Selects proper technical factors on an individual patient basis.
• Screens all patients and visitors prior to entry into the magnetic imaging area.
• Appraises physical condition of patients to determine durability for the procedure.
• Communicates the nature and type of examination to the patient.
• Verifies and/or obtains informed consent for examinations requiring consent.
• Operates and navigates IS software related to job functions (e.g., MAK, Syngo, PACS, Lifelinks).
• Records and maintains patient history from charts, physicians, or patient interviews.
• Positions patients for imaging to obtain satisfactory examinations and perform requested procedures.
• Protects and immobilizes patients in accordance with prescribed safety standards.
• Utilizes technical equipment (e.g., computers, radio frequency generators, gradient coils, cameras) to produce MRI images.
• Performs complex imaging of cross-sectional, sagittal, coronal, and obliquely generated MRI images.
• Prepares and quality-assures images for radiologist interpretation.
• Troubleshoots equipment problems.
• Assists radiologists in developing new procedures and protocols.
• Assists in development of technical factors.
• Participates in in-service educational programs for technical staff and other hospital groups.
• Participates in clinical instruction and supervision of MRI students.
• Maintains knowledge of latest developments in the MRI field.
• Maintains knowledge of nursing procedures (e.g., sterile techniques, infection control).
• Observes hospital, departmental, and regulatory policies.
• Maintains ethical conduct with all personnel.
• Maintains a clean and orderly working area.
• Understands and practices safety principles regarding strong magnetic fields.
• Performs other related duties as assigned or required.

Requirements

• Registered by the American Registry of Radiological Technology (ARRT).
• ARRT MRI certification (new graduates may obtain within 90 days of hire).
• Thorough knowledge of specialized MRI technology, cross-sectional anatomy, and advanced MRI applications.
• Basic understanding of computer console operations.
• Interpersonal skills to effectively interface with patients, families, staff, and physicians.
• Demonstrated knowledge and skills to provide care across the life span, considering aging processes, developmental stages, and cultural patterns.

Preferred Experience

• Prior experience in Ultrasound, CT, Nuclear Medicine, DSA, cross-sectional anatomy, or computer operations.
• MRI experience.

Pay

$39.56–$65.28 per hour.

Schedule

• Rotating shifts.
• Variable daily hours (per diem, as required).
