About the Role
This position serves as a security guard at Brigham Young University, helping to maintain a safe and secure campus environment. Security Officers patrol and inspect assigned areas, enforce policies, identify suspicious activities, and respond to incidents. They also work closely with BYU Police and other campus partners to support emergency response efforts.
Responsibilities
- Patrol and inspect assigned areas for security risks and safety concerns
- Enforce university security policies and procedures
- Identify suspicious or criminal activity and coordinate with BYU Police
- Absorb and respond to security-related calls for service
- Initiate and support emergency response efforts
- Maintain accurate reports and documentation
- Provide professional customer service while fostering a safe campus environment
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- U.S. citizenship
- Valid Utah driver's license with a clean driving record
- Ability to pass a comprehensive background investigation
- Ability to maintain department physical fitness standards
- Ability to work rotating shifts, including evenings, overnights, weekends, holidays, and in all weather conditions
- Working knowledge of security practices, emergency response procedures, and applicable laws
- Proficiency with security equipment, computer systems, and communication devices
- Strong judgment, professionalism, and the ability to remain calm under pressure
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and conflict resolution skills
Preferred
- Previous security or law enforcement experience
- Supervisory or field training experience
- Knowledge of crime prevention principles and university security operations

Pay Grade and Typical Starting Pay
The pay grade for this position is 47, with a typical starting hourly rate of $18.75 to $23.75.
