MPIM Machine Operator - 2nd Shift

About the role

McWane Plant and Industrial (MPI) is seeking an experienced Machine Operator to join our Job Shop Fabrication and Machining operation. The Machine Operator is responsible for measuring, threading, adjusting flange fit, and facing the flange on pieces of ductile or steel pipe. Position will require using various manual machine tools such as lathes and threaders.

Responsibilities

• Ensuring personal and team safety
• Maintaining a safe and healthy work environment
• Using appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
• Cleaning assigned work area and maintaining a clean work environment
• Promoting McWane Way principles
• Fulfilling processes and procedures associated with the Clear Water Safety Management Program
• Identifying fabrication requirements for each piece of pipe
• Placing pipe in machine, centering it, and tightening for work
• Machining tapered threads into the pipe and verifying measurements
• Tightening flanges onto pipes after machining
• Operating machines and cranes to move pipe in and out of machining centers
• For Threaders: Removing pipe from machine and moving to next operation
• For Lathes: Running cutting tool across the surface of the flange to flush fit the flange onto the pipe
• Working with pipe and flanges primarily from 3" to 6" in diameter, and lengths from 4 inches to 18 feet long
• Meeting prescribed production output objectives for the work center
• Having good math skills, able to read a tape measure and micrometer
• Able to understand machinery processes
• Consistent attendance, arriving on time, every day
• Being a team player, willing to work when needed, help and volunteer across a variety of different machines
• Positive, enthusiastic, and helpful attitude

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent desired
• Previous experience with machinery desired

Work Environment

• Regularly stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls
• Communicate verbally and in writing in English
• Occasionally reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
• Lift and/or move up to 10 pounds frequently, up to 25 pounds occasionally, and up to 50 pounds occasionally
• Work in dust and fumes, outside in all types of weather conditions, and tolerate exposure to loud noises
• Operate a forklift and obtain certification
