MPI Calera - CAM Programmer

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and highly organized CAM Programmer to join our team in Calera, AL. This position will be responsible for building optimized machining programs for production runs of captive large valves and drawings, designing fixtures, and utilizing knowledge of different tooling and tooling suppliers, and CAM to produce accurate parts.

Responsibilities

• Ensure personal safety and the safety of team members, maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
• Wear appropriate PPE, including fall protection, respiratory protection, hearing protection, foot, hand, head, and eye protection.
• Maintain cleanliness of assigned work area and promote a safe and clean environment.
• Proactively promote the McWane Way principles.
• Lead the development of CAM programs, including CNC mills and lathes, maximizing quality and output.
• Write programs for 3, 4, and 5-axis machining centers, including complex surfaces.
• Retrieve CAD data from customers and translate files for offline programming software.
• Create user-friendly programs for operators with varying skill levels.
• Troubleshoot and edit programs at machines as required.
• Assist operators with questions regarding CNC programs, part files, and inspection sheets.
• Inspect and measure finished products to ensure process completion.
• Provide tooling and fixturing recommendations.
• Develop and manage tool databases for each machine.
• Manage shop floor programs and revisions, implementing probing on machines.
• Continuously improve and optimize programs and manufacturing processes.
• Create PO requisitions for materials, cutters, tooling, etc.
• Create documentation for part manufacturing, including setup sheets.
• Stay current with technology and software upgrades.
• Communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisors, vendors, and customers.
• Complete required paperwork and maintain a clean, organized work area.
• Assist in quoting cycle times and prioritize continuous improvement.
• Handle all aspects of engineering, from inception to testing and finalization.
• Introduce new products, perform first article machining, and prove out programs.
• Design tooling for machines, fixtures, and assembly equipment.
• Perform CNC programming for 2D and 3D setups.
• Set up and operate CNC equipment for high mix, low volume manufacturing.
• Train personnel and manage job costs and estimating.

Qualifications

• 3-6 years of experience in CAM Programming and fixture design.
• High school diploma/GED required.
• Advanced computer skills.
• Minimum skillset of a Machine Operator II.
• Experience in CAM software (SolidCam).
• Ability to work and communicate effectively in a collaborative environment.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Familiarity with valves, castings, and mechanical components is a plus.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Position Requirements

• Physical requirements include standing, walking, stooping, balancing, kneeling, reaching, and sitting.
• Ability to wear appropriate PPE (steel-toed boots, safety glasses, hearing protection, and mask).
• Work in conditions with heat, cold, noise, and vibration.
• Ability to work in dust and fumes.
• Operate forklift or overhead crane.
• Work overtime and extended hours as needed.
• Work outside in all types of weather conditions and tolerate loud noises.
