About the role
The Motor Equipment Metal Mechanic (Motor Vehicle Body Repairer) is responsible for repairing damaged bodies and body parts of automotive vehicles. This includes removing upholstery, accessories, electrical and hydraulic components, positioning blocks, beating surfaces to remove dents, filling depressions, filing, grinding, sanding repaired surfaces, and refinishes them.
Responsibilities
- Beats opposite surface to remove dents using a hammer.
- Fills depressions with solder or other plastic material.
- Removes damaged fenders, panels, and grills using wrenches and cutting torch.
- Bolts or welds replacement parts, straightens bent frames using hydraulic jack and pulling device, and files, grinds, and sands repaired surfaces.
- Refinishes repaired surfaces using a paint spray gun and sander.
- Aims headlights, aligns wheels, bleeds hydraulic brake system, and may paint surface after performing body repairs.
- Plans, lays out, fabricates, assembles, installs, and repairs metal body parts necessary to recondition and modify mobile and non-mobile equipment.
- Modifies body parts and installs items required by various Maintenance Work Order Requests (MWOR's).
- Provides coordination, on-the-job assistance, and/or limited technical direction to employees performing similar work.
- Plans, schedules, and performs quality assurance and quality control functions in process and upon completion.
- Performs routine and non-routine troubleshooting/problem identification and resolution.
- Responds to various types of emergencies and provides assistance as appropriate based on skills, knowledge, and ability.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED and specific training in the metal mechanic field.
- Five (5) years documented, verifiable work experience in the metal mechanic field.
- Pre-employment test of structural welding abilities based on customer requirements, prints, and materials used.
- Good written and spoken communication and analytical skills.
- A working knowledge of basic computer systems and software programs.
- A valid and current state driver's license.
- Able to complete paperwork associated with vehicle maintenance and repairs.
- Able to manipulate and use hand tools and hydraulic equipment.
- Able to work in a team environment.
- Able to speak, read, write, and understand English.

Pay
$31.63 PLUS per diem and paid travel costs.
Schedule
This position requires up to 100% travel.
