About the role

Motor Drive Firmware Engineer with deep expertise in embedded systems and real-time control for electromechanical systems. You will design and implement high-performance motor control firmware critical to the precision and reliability of our autonomous platforms, working closely with electrical, mechanical, and systems teams to ensure seamless integration across hardware and software.

We're hiring across multiple experience levels, including Associate Engineer, Engineer, Senior Engineer, Staff Engineer, and Senior Staff Engineer. Your title and level will be determined based on your experience, skills, and the scope of responsibility appropriate for the role.

What You'll Do

  • Design, develop, and maintain embedded firmware in C/C++ for real-time motor control applications, including high-frequency control loops, deterministic system behavior, and advanced control algorithms such as PID and Field-Oriented Control (FOC).
  • Develop and optimize firmware for BLDC, PMSM, and similar motor systems, with a focus on precise, efficient, and reliable performance.
  • Partner closely with electrical engineers to bring up and validate motor control hardware, including power stages, gate drivers, current/position sensing, and other feedback systems.
  • Use laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and power analyzers to evaluate system performance and diagnose control, timing, and signal-integrity issues.
  • Optimize embedded firmware for low latency, computational efficiency, and robustness within resource- and hardware-constrained environments.
  • Conduct laboratory and field testing to validate motor behavior, performance, and reliability across real-world operating conditions.

What You'll Need

  • 3+ years of experience developing embedded firmware, preferably with a focus on motor control or motion-control systems.
  • Strong understanding of real-time control systems, BLDC/PMSM motors, motor drivers, and power electronics.
  • Proficiency in C/C++ development for embedded platforms.
  • Hands-on experience with microcontrollers such as STM32, TI C2000, or comparable architectures.
  • Strong hardware debugging and troubleshooting skills, including experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power analyzers, and related lab equipment.
  • Ability to work effectively across firmware, electrical, and hardware interfaces to diagnose and resolve system-level issues.

Nice to Have

  • Hands-on experience with Field-Oriented Control (FOC) and other advanced motor-control techniques.
  • Experience developing real-time firmware using an RTOS and/or bare-metal architectures.
  • Experience integrating embedded firmware with mechanical systems, actuators, and electromechanical assemblies.
  • Familiarity with developing systems where reliability, determinism, and robust operation are critical, including defense, aerospace, automotive, robotics, or other high-reliability applications.
