Position Summary

The Mortgage Loan Officer (MLO) will originate the bank's mortgage products, including conventional residential mortgages and FHA/VA loans. Responsibilities include counseling potential homebuyers, obtaining necessary documents, and coordinating loan processes. The role requires strong production results, particularly in serving low-and-moderate income and minority communities.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Interviews applicants and requests specific information for mortgage loan applications.
  • Serves as the primary contact for all parties involved in individual loans from application to closing.
  • Counsels and pre-qualifies potential home buyers.
  • Completes applications and obtains all necessary support documents, including fee and lock-in information, in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains loan status and ensures conformity with terms.
  • Obtains loan documentation prior to closing and assists in collecting additional documents.
  • Communicates loan status to all parties.
  • Analyzes applicant financial status, credit, and property evaluation to determine loan feasibility.
  • Works with underwriting to address mortgage-related issues and submit loan packages to operations for approval.
  • Coordinates loan processing activities with the loan processor and borrower to ensure proper documentation and verification.
  • Develops and maintains internal relationships to create cross-sell opportunities.
  • Supports and promotes the bank's vision, mission, and core values.
  • Works under high-pressure situations and maintains effective relationships with various stakeholders.

Other Responsibilities

  • Ensures compliance with federal and state regulations and bank policies.
  • Provides strong, compassionate leadership to foster positive attitudes and trust among employees, customers, and prospects.
  • Performs job duties requiring physical presence at the bank.

Qualifications, Education and Experience Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent with 1-3 years of residential real estate experience, preferably in a brokerage, lending, or underwriting capacity.
  • Possession of an NMLS license or being in the process of obtaining one.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to work within time constraints.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.
  • Intermediate computer skills, including proficiency in a Windows environment.
  • Ability to be results-oriented with sound judgment.
  • Ability to lead and manage workflow of subordinate(s).
  • Ability to establish credibility and make decisions while supporting the company's preferences and priorities.
  • Ability to be physically present at the bank to perform job duties.
